Camp Dawson FamCamp
Overview
Camp Dawson is a West Virginia National Guard installation located along the Cheat River in Kingwood, West Virginia. The installation offers a small-scale FamCamp setup designed for eligible military members and guests seeking a quiet, nature-focused stay.
The campground includes six RV spaces equipped with electrical service only. Individual water and sewer hookups are not provided at the sites, so campers should plan accordingly. The setting is simple and geared toward travelers who prefer a more basic, utility-focused stop.
Amenities & Recreation
Guests staying at Camp Dawson have access to nearby base facilities and outdoor recreation areas. A lakeside pavilion and fire pit provide gathering space, while fishing and paddle boating are available in the surrounding area.
The installation also features a modern fitness center, an indoor Olympic-size swimming pool with locker rooms and showers, a restaurant, and a convenience store. The pool complex is within walking distance of the campground.
Eligibility & Access
Use of the campground and other lodging facilities is restricted to authorized patrons, including active-duty personnel, National Guard members, reservists, retirees, eligible dependents, qualifying disabled veterans, and Department of Defense civilians and contractors. Proper identification is required for access.
Camp Dawson operates year-round, making it a potential stopover for travelers moving through northern West Virginia.
