Joint Base Charleston AFB FamCamp

The Air Base FamCamp (often called Shady Oaks) is located on the Air Force side of Joint Base Charleston and requires base access. Despite being on an active installation, the campground feels more like a wooded state park than a traditional base lodging area. Mature oak trees and tall pines provide shade throughout the property, creating a quiet, natural setting. The Air Base location includes more than 40 full hook-up RV sites with paved pads. Sites are spacious, well-maintained, and landscaped, making them suitable for larger rigs. Water and electrical connections (30/50 amp) are available at each space, along with Wi-Fi service throughout the campground.

Joint Base Charleston operates three distinct camping areas in the Lowcountry:
1. Air Base FamCamp (Shady Oaks)

Located on Lake Moultrie in Moncks Corner
Offers waterfront and wooded RV sites, plus tent camping
Private beach, boat rentals, fishing, and picnic areas
Central dump station (no sewer at individual sites)
Amenities & Recreation
Campers at the Air Base location are within walking distance of picnic areas, a playground, the ITT office (Tickets & Travel), and the golf course snack bar. Food delivery from the base club may be available. The Outdoor Recreation Center also offers equipment rentals and additional recreation opportunities.
On-base amenities include laundry, bathhouses, pool access, basketball and tennis courts, and other recreational facilities.
The campground operates year-round. Reservations are accepted by phone and are typically limited to the current month plus the following two months. Maximum stay limits apply (up to 180 days, followed by a required break period). Pets are allowed under standard leash and cleanup rules.

Yes. The paved sites are large and well laid out, making maneuvering easier for larger fifth wheels and motorhomes.
