Fort Belvoir Travel Camp

Fort Belvoir Recreational Lodging & Travel Camp is a secure, military-only campground located along the Potomac River about 22 miles south of Washington, D.C. Operated by Fort Belvoir MWR, the property combines waterfront camping with convenient access to the nation’s capital and surrounding historic sites.
RV Sites & Lodging Options
The campground includes 52 full hook-up RV sites built on 40-foot concrete pads. Each space offers water, sewer, and 20/30/50-amp electrical service, along with cable TV and wireless internet access. Sites are available in both pull-in and back-in configurations and include a picnic table and fire ring. For guests without an RV, several rental options are available: Travel Trailer Rentals – Outback Terrain trailers (two-night minimum stay required). Rustic Cabins – Furnished units with river views. Premium Destination Trailer – A larger rental featuring upgraded amenities. Guest Rooms – Located within the Officers’ Club (availability may vary due to renovations).
Amenities & Recreation
Campers have access to family-style restrooms, hot showers, and coin-operated laundry facilities. Two ADA-accessible fishing piers and nearby Castle Park — which includes a playground, picnic areas, and volleyball space — are within walking distance of the campground. The Outdoor Recreation office, located close to the camp, offers equipment rentals such as kayaks, paddleboards, pontoon boats, and fishing gear. Firewood, bait, and basic supplies are also available. The surrounding area connects to hiking and biking trails, including access to the nearby Accotink Wildlife Refuge.
Exploring the Area
The campground’s location makes it a practical base for visiting Washington, D.C., without staying in the city. A nearby Metrorail station provides public transit access into downtown. Historic attractions such as George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate are also a short drive away. Eligibility & Booking
Access is limited to authorized military personnel, retirees, reservists, National Guard members, DoD civilians, and installation contractors. A valid military or DoD ID is required at check-in. Reservations may typically be made up to one year in advance, with full payment due at the time of booking. Cancellation policies vary by lodging type. Pets are permitted in designated areas and must remain leashed at all times. Rental units may include additional pet fees.
