Florida is one of the best states in the country for military RV camping. Between the Gulf Coast’s white-sand beaches, the Space Coast’s rocket launches, the Keys, and year-round warm weather that draws snowbirds every winter, the Sunshine State packs an enormous amount into a single road trip — and military families can do it all at a fraction of civilian campground prices. This guide covers the verified FamCamps, Navy Getaways RV parks, and MWR recreation areas across Florida, organized by region, with firsthand notes on what to expect at each.
Every campground listed here is open to eligible military ID holders — active duty, retirees, veterans, and DoD civilians, depending on the facility. Nightly rates typically run well below comparable civilian RV parks, and many sites sit directly on the water. As always, confirm current availability and access rules with the installation before you travel.
The Florida Panhandle (Emerald Coast)
The Panhandle’s “Emerald Coast” — from Pensacola through Destin and Panama City — has the highest concentration of military campgrounds in Florida, and some of the best beaches anywhere. This is prime snowbird territory, so winter reservations fill early.
- Blue Angel Park (NAS Pensacola) — A large Navy MWR recreation area on Perdido Bay with roughly 149 RV sites, cabins, a marina, disc golf, and a paintball field. Great for families and longer stays.
- Oak Grove Park (NAS Pensacola) — A second Pensacola-area option on the base itself.
- Eglin AFB FamCamp – Camp Robbins (Niceville) — The newer of Eglin’s two campgrounds, with 60 full-hookup sites near Fort Walton Beach and Destin.
- Eglin AFB FamCamp – Post’l Point (Niceville) — Eglin’s waterfront campground on the bay, spartan but with unbeatable views.
- Clear Creek RV Park (NAS Whiting Field, Milton) — A quieter inland Navy option north of the coast.
- Tyndall AFB FamCamp (Panama City) — Rebuilt and modernized after Hurricane Michael, with 118 sites (100 full-hookup) right on the water, plus cabins. A snowbird favorite.
- Panama City RV Park & Cabins (NSA Panama City) — Another Panama City-area choice with RV and cabin options.
Panhandle insider tip: The salt air here is hard on RVs — rinse your rig regularly to prevent corrosion, and bring a water pressure regulator. Winter (November through March) is peak season; if you want a full-hookup or waterfront site December through February, reserve as far ahead as the facility allows.
The Space Coast & Central Florida
Florida’s Atlantic coast around Cape Canaveral offers something no other military campground in America can: front-row seats to rocket launches, plus easy access to Orlando’s theme parks about an hour inland.
- Manatee Cove FamCamp (Patrick SFB, Cocoa Beach) — One of Florida’s most popular military campgrounds, right on the Banana River with about 156 full-service sites, a marina, private beach, and abundant wildlife (manatees, dolphins, ospreys). Just south of Kennedy Space Center.
- KARS Park (Kennedy Space Center, Merritt Island) — A NASA/military recreation park directly across the water from the launch pads — arguably the best rocket-launch viewing campground anywhere. Waterfront sites, boat launch, and great fishing. Requires a KARS membership.
Space Coast insider tip: Check the launch schedule before you book — a night at KARS Park or Manatee Cove timed to a SpaceX launch is a bucket-list experience. Both are within easy reach of the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex and about an hour from Orlando’s attractions.
Tampa Bay & the Gulf Coast
- MacDill AFB FamCamp (Tampa) — One of the largest and most sought-after military campgrounds in the country, with around 359 full-hookup sites on Tampa Bay, a marina, white-sand beach, and two dog parks. Extremely popular with winter snowbirds — full-hookup sites can require reservations up to a year in advance.
Northeast Florida (Jacksonville)
The Jacksonville area has several Navy RV parks clustered around NS Mayport and NAS Jacksonville, close to Atlantic Beach and the Georgia line.
- Pelican Roost RV Park (NS Mayport) — Mayport’s main RV park, on the inlet overlooking the St. Johns River jetties — great water views for short-term stays.
- Osprey Cove RV Park (NS Mayport) — The long-stay park at Mayport, tucked among live oaks.
- Jacksonville RV Park / Manatee Cove (NAS Jacksonville) — On NAS Jax along the St. Johns River.
The Florida Keys
- Key West Campground / Sigsbee (NAS Key West) — Camping in paradise at the southernmost tip of the continental U.S. One of the most in-demand military campgrounds in the country — book as early as possible.
Who can stay at Florida military campgrounds?
Eligibility varies slightly by facility, but most Florida FamCamps and Navy Getaways RV parks are open to active duty, retirees, National Guard and Reserve members, 100% disabled veterans, and DoD civilians. Since 2020, access at many installations has expanded to include veterans with a service-connected disability rating and Purple Heart recipients. Some parks give active duty reservation priority, especially during peak winter season. A valid military or DoD ID is required for base access at all locations.
Tips for military RV camping in Florida
- Book winter early. October through April is snowbird season across Florida. The most popular parks (MacDill, Manatee Cove, Key West) fill months ahead for full-hookup sites.
- Summer is wide open — and hot. May through September sees far more availability, often walk-up friendly, but expect heat, humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms. Hurricane season runs June through November.
- Protect your rig from salt air. Coastal sites are gorgeous but corrosive — rinse regularly and use a surge protector, as coastal power can be inconsistent.
- Always verify before you travel. Gate access rules, rates, and availability change. Call the campground office directly to confirm — every listing on Military RV Sites includes the current phone number.
