Black Spruce Travel Camp
Overview
Black Spruce Travel Camp sits in a spruce forest on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) in Anchorage, offering a wilderness feel with full base amenities close by — the commissary, exchange, and shoppette are minutes away. It's a seasonal park (open roughly May through October) with about 40 full-hookup RV sites (50/30/20-amp, water, sewer) plus a few electric-and-water sites and tent sites, laid out as pull-throughs among the thick trees. On-site are a bathhouse with showers, a central laundry, and a free dump station. It makes an excellent base camp for exploring Anchorage, Chugach State Park, and salmon fishing on nearby Ship Creek, with moose and eagles often spotted right in the campground. Because Fort Richardson adjoins Elmendorf, you have the facilities of both.

Important Info
Seasonal — closed in winter (approximately open May–October). Sites are first-come, first-served; registration envelopes and payment boxes are at each campground entrance (MWR generally won't confirm site availability by phone). Use the 24/7 Gate #1 (Fort Richardson/Arctic Valley exit off AK-1/Glenn Highway); RVs use the right car lane, not the commercial lane. Open to active duty, National Guard, Reservists, retirees, 0–100% DAV, and DoD civilians with base access. Call JBER Outdoor Recreation at (907) 854-1734 with questions.
