Fort Hunter Liggett Primitive Campground
Overview
Fort Hunter Liggett's campground sits on an Army installation in Jolon, California, managed through the base Outdoor Recreation office at Building 287 on Infantry Road. Two distinct camping areas are available: a primitive section with 27 numbered sites, plus an overflow area, and a separate RV/trailer section with two electrical sites that include water hookups. The primitive sites run $10 per day, while the two electrical sites are $15 per day. Pets are allowed for an additional $2 per day. ODR staff also offer equipment rentals — fishing poles, tents, bikes, and more — so you don't have to haul everything yourself. Fort Hunter Liggett is a major Army training installation covering a large stretch of the central California coast range, which means the surrounding terrain is genuine backcountry.
