Overview
Southwinds Marina & Recreation Area is Laughlin Air Force Base's lakeside getaway on the shores of Lake Amistad, one of the larger, clearer lakes in Texas, within the Amistad National Recreation Area near Del Rio (about 30 miles northwest of the base, off Highway 90 West and Spur 349). It's a scenic, quiet spot with roughly 21 full-hookup pull-through RV sites (30/50-amp, water, sewer) plus water-and-electric sites, tent sites, and four rentable cabins — many sites have their own metal awning over a picnic table and BBQ pit. The marina rents fishing, bass, pontoon, ski, and deck boats, plus kayaks, paddleboards, and canoes, and there's a boat ramp, dry storage, a store, free laundry, showers, and hiking. Campers consistently praise the stunning lake views and peaceful atmosphere — a genuine hidden gem for boating and fishing.

The boat ramp is open to the public, but camping and boat rentals are reserved for authorized patrons. Some reviewers note the older cabins/bathhouse can be dated.
