Bethel Recreation Area (Langley FamCamp)
Overview
Bethel Recreation Area sits beside a reservoir on Langley Air Force Base, a wooded, shaded FamCamp about two miles from the main base in Hampton, Virginia. The campground offers roughly two dozen RV sites tucked among mature trees, most with full hookups and a handful with water and electric only, plus a small number of primitive tent sites for those camping without a rig. Each site comes with a picnic table, grill, and fire ring, and a bath house nearby has showers, restrooms, and laundry machines. A playground sits a short distance from the camping area, and an adjacent marina overlooks the water, though guests should expect it to show its age. The park is open year-round and popular enough that many sites are held by longer-term guests, so calling ahead for availability is worthwhile. Its location near Hampton and Newport News puts guests within easy reach of Virginia's Historic Triangle — Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown — as well as the Hampton Roads waterfront.

Maximum stay is 90 consecutive days, with an additional 90 days available on request at check-in if space allows. Not gated — a public paintball field operates near the back of the campground, so don't expect base-level seclusion. Little shade variance across sites; some campers note storm-damaged trees nearby, so check in on current site conditions. Open year-round to active duty, retirees, Reservists, National Guard, DoD civilians, 100% disabled veterans, and VHIC-cardholding veterans with valid ID.
