Lake O'Neill Recreation Park
Overview
Lake O'Neill Recreation Park sits on the shores of its namesake lake on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, less than an hour north of San Diego. The lakeside campground offers 18 paved full-hookup RV sites (water, 30-amp, sewer), 43 paved water-and-30-amp sites, and 77 gravel tent sites, most spread out under trees for privacy. The stocked lake draws anglers, with rowboat and paddleboat rentals available spring through fall. Beyond camping there are playgrounds (including ADA), basketball, softball, miniature golf, and a peninsula for group events. Camp Pendleton's location puts the San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, and Disneyland all within reach. Expect some daytime aircraft noise from the base flight path (helicopters, quieting after 10 PM).

Important Info
Full-hookup sites are limited (only 18) — book well in advance for sewer. Reservations by phone during office hours (as of late 2025, up to 12 months ahead). Maximum stay 15 days April–October, 30 days November–March, with possible extensions based on availability. Requires base access; military camping only. Pets allowed with breed restrictions and fees.
