Smith Lake Recreation Area
Overview
Smith Lake Recreation Area sits on Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg) outside Fayetteville, NC, and runs an Army Travel Campground open year-round to DoD ID cardholders and their guests. RV options include pull-through and back-in sites, all offering full service with water, electric, and sewer. Back-in sites with water and electric only are also available. Nightly rates vary by site type and stay length, so check the campground's Rules and Fees document for current pricing. Amenities include bath houses with individual bathrooms, coin-operated laundry, a sewage dump station available at no charge to registered guests, ADA-accessible playgrounds, and fishing on the lake's north side — though both an installation permit and a valid NC fishing license are required. The wider recreation area adds mountain bike and hiking trails, picnic areas, and seasonal lake operations. The campground does not rent sites during inclement weather, and day-of reservations apply only to primitive tent sites. Cabins are also on-site but prohibit pets; the RV campground is pet friendly.
